An alumnus of the University of Ilorin, Dr Adekunle Akanni Adeleke, has joined the ranks of the world’s elite researchers as he was listed among the Top 2% of Scientists globally in the 2025 Stanford University ranking.

Dr Adeleke, who currently serves as the Head of the Department of Mechanical Engineering at Nile University of Nigeria, Abuja, earned this recognition through the global assessment compiled by Stanford University and published in the Elsevier Data Repository (V8), a copy of which was made available to UNILORIN  Bulletin .

In his remarks, the Dean of the Faculty of Engineering and Technology, Prof. Joshua Olaoye, described the recognition as a well deserved honour that further underscores the quality of training and research excellence associated with the University of Ilorin.

Also commenting, Prof. Jamiu Odusote, who supervised Dr Adeleke’s  M.Sc. and Ph.D. theses, noted with pride that the honouree obtained all his degrees in Mechanical Engineering from the University of  Ilorin.

He emphasised that Dr Adeleke’s achievement is a source of inspiration to students and young researchers in the field.

Reacting to the honour, Dr Adeleke said that he was “deeply humbled and grateful”, expressing joy at being recognised in the 2025 Edition of the World’s Top 2% Scientists.

According to him, “This is more than a personal achievement. It is a landmark milestone in my journey and a reflection of the collective dedication, sacrifice, and excellence of so many amazing individuals and institutions who have walked this path with me.”

He expressed profound gratitude to his mentors for their wisdom and encouragement, to colleagues and collaborators for their shared vision and teamwork, and to his PhD scholars and students for their resilience and inspiration.

Dr Adeleke further appreciated Nile University of Nigeria and the Honoris Educational Network for providing a conducive environment for research and innovation.

He, therefore, returned glory to God, acknowledging His grace and favour as the foundation of his accomplishments.

“This recognition is a reminder that research is a mission of service to humanity. Together, we will continue to break new ground, create solutions to real world problems, and leave a lasting legacy for generations to come,” he said.
