UNILORIN’s 50th anniversary for all-Alfanla

By Abubakar Imam

The Registrar of the University of Ilorin, Mr Mansur Adeleke Alfanla, has encouraged the entire members of the University community, particularly the Registry staff and the generality of the non-teaching staff of the institution, to be prepared to play their part in the upcoming celebration of the 50th anniversary of the University.

Mr Alfanla gave this advice last Tuesday (June 10, 2025) while speaking with UNILORIN Bulletin in his office.

The Registrar explained that the anniversary deserves to be celebrated as he described it as an important milestone in the history of the University.

Mr Alfanla, who is the seventh Registrar and Secretary to the University Governing Council, assured stakeholders that all the Registry staff of the University are being fully mobilised for maximum participation in all the aspects of the celebration.

The Registrar said that the anniversary is for all the staff of the University without exception, saying that no one should exempt himself or herself from the celebration, which, he said, would confirm the University’s preeminent position.

Speaking on the contributions of the Registry to the growth of the University, the Registar explained that the Unit is one of the most critical segments of the University.

He pointed out that the Registry is as old as the University as he insisted that one of the critical units that make a University is the Registry as there can be no University without a Registry.

Mr Alfanla, who commended the current Vice Chancellor of the University, Prof. Wahab Olasupo Egbewole, SAN, and all his illustrious predecessors for their contributions, also saluted all the past Registrars of the University such as Chief Olu Daramola, Alhaji Abdulkadir Oba Adebayo Alao, Alhaji M. T. Balogun, Mrs Olufolake Oyeyemi, Mr Emmanuel Dada Obafemi and his immediate past predecessor, Dr Fola Olowoleni, for their contributions.

He said,”it is the collection of the contributions of those ladies and gentlemen that culminated in the milestones that would be celebrated with us by the rest of the world”.

Speaking specifically on the quality and contributions of the Registry to the several monumental achievements of the University, Mr Alfanla said that the University has been undoubtedly blessed with highly resourceful administrative staff who have offered and still offering remarkable contributions to the University and sister institutions over the years.

He explained that it is these qualities and contributions that informed the appointment of several staff members of the University’s Registry as Registrars of sister universities and other institutions of higher learning.

These individuals, according to Mr Alfanla, include Dr Rebecca Okojie, the Registrar, Federal University, Lokoja; Mrs Funke Hudson; the Registrar, Confluence University of Science and Technology, Osara. Kogi State; and Mr Kazeem Kayode Babamale, who is the Registrar of the Federal University of Health Sciences, Ila-Orangun.

Others, according to Mr Alfanla, are Dr Wasilat Kikelomo Salleh, the Registrar of the Kwara State University, Malete; and Mrs Khadijah Wuraola Garba, the pioneer Registrar of the Federal College of Education, Ilawe-Ekiti; and, of course, Mr Emmanuel Dada Obafemi, who was recalled from retirement to serve as the pioneer Registrar of the newly-licensed Abdulrasaq Abubakar Toyin University, Ganmo, Ilorin.

On the role expected of the various trade unions in the University towards the success of the anniversary celebration, Mr Alfanla, who is a former Chairman of the University of Ilorin Chapter of the Senior Staff Association of Nigerian Universities (SSANU), said that the upcoming anniversary deserves the support of the unions, saying that it is the success of the University as an institution that informed the appointment of their members as staff members of the University at various times.
