The Management of the University of Ilorin has warned private business owners on campus and other individuals against involvement in the bypassing of electricity meters fixed in their premises.
The Registrar of the University, Mr Mansur Adeleke Alfanla, issued this warning in a memo dated April 30, 2025 and addressed to members of the University community, a copy of which was sighted by UNILORIN Bulletin.
Mr Alfanla said that the warning is necessitated by the recent apprehension of some of the perpetrators of meter bypass by officials of UNILORIN Holdings Limited.
While saying that all those caught have been penalised accordingly, the Registrar explained that more grievous punishment such as forfeiture of tenancy, report of offenders to relevant anti-graft agencies and prosecution await future offenders.
Mr Alfanla said that unscheduled inspections of commercial outlets, including private hostels and staff quarters, will be periodically embarked upon in order to discourage violation of the rule.
