In recognition of the benefits derivable from cooperative interactions among institutions of higher learning across various countries, the University of Ilorin last Thursday (September 25, 2025) signed a Memorandum of Understanding  (MOU) with The Gambia University of Applied Science, Engineering and Technology (USET), Kainfing.

While Prof. Wahab Olasupo Egbewole, SAN, who is also the Secretary-General of the Association of West African Universities (AWAU), signed on behalf of the University of Ilorin, Prof. Nazmat Surajudeen-Bakinde, the Vice Chancellor of USET, signed on behalf of her University at an event held on the sideline of the recently-concluded 9th Conference of U6+ Consortium of African Universities that held in Banju, the capital city of the Republic of Gambia.

A copy of the MoU made available to UNILORIN Bulletin by the Director of the Centre for International Education (CIE), University of Ilorin, Prof. Lateef Onireti Ibraheem, showed that the two institutions agreed “to establish academic linkages and educational collaboration to their benefit”.

The two institutions also agreed to facilitate educational exchange and joint academic ventures that would offer opportunities towards enhancing the service delivery capacities of the two universities and also foster cross-cultural understanding between them.

The agreement also includes organising, promoting, staffing and coordinating long and short-term faculty and student exchanges and other academic activities as well as the deployment of Information and Communications Technologies in order to enhance programmatic access through distance education and instructional delivery.

The two institutions also agreed to ensure the provision of exchange internship opportunities for their qualified students. It also provides for the coordination of joint research cooperation and curriculum development, joint supervision of postgraduate projects and theses and exchange of professorial assessors as well as exchange of external examiners, among other issues of mutual interest.
