The University of Ilorin is set to host the 2025 National Conference of the National Yoruba Studies Association, themed “Yoruba Studies and Technology: Prospects and Challenges.”
A statement by Dr Oluwole Tewogboye Okewande, Secretary of the Local Organising Committee, disclosed that the Conference, scheduled to hold between October 6th and 9th, 2025, will bring together members of the Association from Nigeria and the Diaspora to explore the role of Yoruba language and culture in promoting national development, unity, peace, and technological advancement.
He said that the Conference that would hold at the University Auditorium, promises to be an enlightening experience, featuring esteemed speakers such as Prof. Oyeronke Olademo of the Department of Religions, University of Ilorin, and Olalekan Isaac Olatunde, Co-Founder of Yoruba Wikimedia Association.
The Vice Chancellor of the University of Ilorin, Prof. Wahab Olasupo Egbewole, SAN, will serve as the Chief Host.
He explained that Prof. Jawondo Ibrahim Abdulganiyu, the Dean of the Faculty of Arts, University of Ilorin, will host the conference alongside Prof. Bolanle E. Arokoyo, the Head of the Department of Linguistics and Nigerian Languages.
Dr Okewande emphasised the significance of Yoruba studies in today’s world, highlighting the contributions of Yoruba people and language to national, continental, and international development, including the evolving field of Artificial Intelligence. The conference aims to harness the potential of Yoruba language and culture to drive technological emancipation and national unity.
