A retired Chief Confidential Secretary at the University of Ilorin, Mr Joseph Folorunso Olafare, has expressed gratitude to the institution for teaching him how to live a fulfilling life after retirement.

Mr Olafare, whose last position was the Secretary of the Directorate of Corporate Affairs, made this commendation while speaking with UNILORIN Bulletin on his experience in retirement as he marked his 70th birthday.

The retired Confidential Secretary praised the University for equipping him and his colleagues with the skills and knowledge needed to navigate post-work life.

While attributing his sound health to God’s mercies, Mr  Olafare advised those who are still in service to plan their retirement at least ten years in advance as he emphasised the importance of early preparation for a smooth transition.

Mr Olafare expressed profound gratitude to the University for the privilege he was given to serve it for several decades, saying that he was always delighted that he took part in the moulding of lives of thousands of individuals who are today leaders in various sectors of the society.

He recalled that his employment at the University also afforded him the opportunity of relating with people from divergent socio-cultural backgrounds, which assisted him and his colleagues to participate effectively in nation-building.

Mr Olafare, who is an indigene of Ile-Ife, Osun State, urged those who are still in service to continue to exhibit hard work and honesty as he explained that good attributes always pay in the long run.
