The Department of Agricultural Extension and Rural Development, University of Ilorin, has launched a new radio programme, titled,”Farmers’ Companion,” aimed at enhancing agricultural knowledge and practices within the University and neighbouring communities.
This was contained in a statement made available to UNILORIN Bulletin last Wednesday (January 7, 2026) by the Head of the Department, Prof. Kemi Omotesho.
Prof. Omotesho emphasised that the programme aligns with the University’s core mandate of contributing meaningfully to national development through teaching, research, and community engagement and it seeks to bridge agricultural information gaps, fostering a more informed and productive agrarian community.
She stated that the programme would come up weekly on UNILORIN 89.3FM every Wednesday at 1:00 pm.
The Head of the Department added that the programme would feature experts and practising farmers who would beĀ interviewed on their success stories as well as on practical tips to empower farmers, students, and stakeholders in the agricultural sector.
Prof. Omotesho explained that the programme’s core objectives include educating listeners on improved farming techniques, promoting sustainable agricultural practices, and providing vital information on agribusiness opportunities and innovations. “It will also serve as a valuable platform for knowledge exchange, skill development, and advocacy for rural and agricultural development.” She added.
She thanked the University Management for the opportunity and urged the University community and the general public to tune in to UNILORIN 89.3 FM to be part of this exciting journey.
