UNILORIN Staff Amicable Cooperative Society elects new leaders

The Amicable Cooperative Society, University of Ilorin, has elected a new set of leaders that would conduct its affairs for the next two years. All the new leaders were elected unopposed.

The election and consequent inauguration ceremony took place last Wednesday (January 14, 2026) at the Faculty of Education Lecture Theatre.

The newly inaugurated executives are Dr AbdulAzeez Isiaka, President; Dr Akinsemoyin Omoshalewa Lasbat, Vice President; Dr Adeoye Sikiru Adewale, Secretary; Mr Emmanuel Ekemode, Assistant Secretary; and Dr Olawuni Olufemi, Treasurer.

The Loan/Credit Committee members are Mr George Ifeoluwa Temidayo, Mr Awojobi Omotayo Sunday, and Owolabi Shola Kehinde.

The Supervisory Committee members are Mrs Erofa Mary Olaniyi, Mr Suleiman Alaran.

Earlier in her welcome address, the outgoing President of the Society, Dr D. S. Daramola, thanked members for their support that contributed to the success recorded during her tenure.

She acknowledged the support of the Ministry of Business Innovation and Technology, particularly its immediate past Director, Mallam Opoye, and his team members who made significant sacrifices for the success of the exercise.

Dr Daramola disclosed that funds were seriously outstanding due to incomplete payment details, but with their support, these funds were traced and credited into the appropriate accounts.

She encouraged members to always visit the Cooperative Secretariat whenever they make payments and ensure their records are properly updated.

She also urged all members to uphold discipline, transparency, fairness, and adherence to the Cooperative laws, electoral processes, and resolutions of the committee members.

In his goodwill message, the President of all Unions of UNILORIN Co-operative Society, Mr. Toyin Alabi of the Audit Unit, advised the incoming Executive Committee members to ensure that the Cooperative’s reserve fund is deposited in the bank. He stressed that in case of an emergency, this would help the Cooperative support its members.

He cited the example of Probitas Co-operative Society, which provided palliative support to its members during the COVID-19 pandemic using 20% of its reserve fund.

In his remarks, the Commissioner of the Ministry for Business, Innovation and Technology, Hon. Damilola Yusuf Adelodun, represented by the Deputy Director, Mr Aduagba D. Yaqub ,stated that the Amicable Cooperative Society is one of the strongest Cooperative Societies on campus in terms of liquidity. He charged the newly inaugurated executive Committee members to think outside the box and sustain the good legacies of the pioneer members of the Cooperative, investing in projects like hostels that could benefit current and future generations.

In his acceptance speech, the new  President, Dr AbdulAzeez Isiaka, expressed gratitude to Almighty Allah, who by His mercy made him and his team members emerge as the new leaders of the Co-operative Society. He said the opportunity given to him to serve will not only benefit the society but also make the society proud.
