The University of Ilorin is set to make history as it prepares to host the National Examinations Council (NECO) first-ever Computer-Based Test (CBT) examination, marking a significant milestone in the institution’s pursuit of academic excellence.
In an exclusive interview on UNILORIN FM last Wednesday, (November 19, 2025), the Director of the CBT Centre, University of Ilorin, Prof. Kamilu Rauf, disclosed that the University has implemented state-of-the-art security measures, including biometric verification and AI-powered proctoring, to ensure the integrity of the examination process.
“We’ve implemented robust security measures, including biometrics verification and AI-powered proctoring, the Director said, adding ‘‘ Our processes are regularly updated to ensure compliance with world best practices.”
According to him, the NECO Board has designated the University of Ilorin as a major centre for Kwara state, and almost all candidates from the state will be directed to the institution for the examination.
“The Board has agreed with our MoU with them to bring their first-ever CBT examination to the University of Ilorin as a major centre for Kwara state. Almost all NECO candidates in Kwara state will be directed to Unilorin, except those that live in very far distances,” he explained.
Prof. Rauf noted that the examination is scheduled to commence on Wednesday, November 26, 2025, and expressed confidence that the University’s CBT centre is well-equipped to handle the challenge.
The Director expressed the hope that the University of Ilorin would soon become the number one University in Nigeria, Africa, and one of the top 10 in the world within the next 20 years.
“I envisioned Unilorin in the next 20 years to be the number 1 in Nigeria, 1 in Africa, and one of the 10 in the world. The speed of development of the University of Ilorin is marvellous,” he said.
Prof. Rauf praised the current administration of the Umiversity for its commitment to excellence, stating that Unilorin is poised to become the best university in all ramifications.
