UNILORIN researcher shines at Excellent Papers Awards

A Professor at the Department of Materials and Metallurgical Engineering, University of Ilorin, Ismaila Idowu Ahmed, has won a bronze prize at the Excellent Papers Awards 2025.
According to a global report, tagged, “Announcement of Winners of the Excellent Papers Awards 2025”, dated September 17,2025, a copy of which was made available to UNILORIN Bulletin.
Prof. Ahmed is one of only two Nigerian scholars on this year’s global winners’ list. The other is Atiba Joshua of Bells University of Technology, who also received a bronze prize.
“The awards recognise outstanding scientific contributions published in top journals such as Nature Chemistry, Nature Catalysis, Nature Communications, Journal of the American Chemical Society (JACS), Advanced Materials, Angewandte Chemie, and Corrosion Science”, the report stated.
It also added that this year, the organisers separated domestic and international entries, enabling broader recognition of overseas scholars.
According to the report, other 29 awardees including three winners in the gold prize category with cash award of 3,000 Chinese Yuan each; 7 winners in the Silver Prize category with 2,000 Chinese Yuan cash award each; and 20 winners in the Bronze Prize category with cash award of 500 Chinese Yuan each.
It further explained that the winners will receive their monetary prizes by September 28, 2025, while announcing that the next edition of the awards will take place in 2026, and encouraged researchers worldwide to prepare and ensure that CorrTest potentiostat instruments are referenced in future publications.
Prof. Ahmed’s recognition places the University of Ilorin among the 30 global institutions honoured, while also highlighting Nigeria’s presence on the world research stage through the awards received by him and Atiba Joshua of Bells University of Technology.
