The management of the University of Ilorin has expressed profound sadness on the death of the pioneer Director of the University’s Legal Services, Mr J. K. Obasa.
In a statement issued by the Registrar of the University, Mr Mansur Adeleke Alfanla, a copy of which was made available to UNILORIN Bulletin, the University expressed deep condolences to the family of the late Mr Obasa, who passed away on Sunday, June 22, 2025.
The late Mr Obasa, who joined the services of the University as its pioneer Legal Officer in 1983, rose to the rank of Director, Legal Services. He held the position from 1994 until his retirement in 2006.
Mr Alfanla described Mr Obasa as a dedicated and highly respected legal mind whose contributions significantly shaped the institution’s growth and legal structure.
The Registrar noted that the late Obasa was a “guiding light of wisdom and leadership,” adding that his legacy of excellence, integrity, and unwavering commitment to justice would continue to inspire generations to come.
While offering heartfelt sympathy to the bereaved family, Mr Alfanla urged them to take solace in the enduring impact of Mr Obasa’s life and service.
