The Head, Faculty of Law Library, University of Ilorin, Mr Ibrahim Olarewaju Yahaya, has said that the Library ranks among the best Law Libraries in the Nigerian University system.
Mr Yahaya, who is also a lawyer and professional librarian, made this assertion last Monday (September 29, 2025) while speaking with UNILORIN Bulletin in his office.
He described the library as a true warehouse of knowledge as he also said that the library is being operated by well-trained and self-motivated professionals who are always eager to assist users in achieving the essence of their visit.
The Faculty Librarian said that the library contains relevant books, law reports, journals and other periodicals that students of the Faculty and other related courses need to update their knowledge.
He also said that the library has a functional e-library with databases such as LexisNexis and Law Pavilion as it is located in an environment that is conducive for adequate learning.
Mr Yahaya added that the library can accommodate 350 readers at a time, saying that the library is also open to other users from outside the University community as he urged students, lecturers and researchers to take advantage of the existence of the library to improve their intellectual and professional wherewithal.
He encouraged returning and old students of the Faculty to feel free to use the library, saying that students who used the library are more likely to excel in their studies compared to those who do not.
The law librarian, who said that the library has a long history dating back to the 1980s, commended the Vice Chancellor of the University, Prof. Wahab Olasupo Egbewole, SAN, for facilitating the construction of the new library building, which, he said, would definitely improve the service delivery of the Faculty.
Mr Yahaya equally commended the University Librarian, Prof. Kamaldeen Tunde Omopupa, for ensuring that the library is well-stocked and properly staffed.
He also praised the immediate past Dean of the Faculty, Prof. Nimah Modupe AbdulRaheem, and the new Dean, Prof. Bashiru Omipidan; as well as previous Deans, particularly Prof. Ibrahim Kayode Adam, Prof. Abdulmumini Adebayo Oba and Prof. Hakeem Ijaiya, for their cummulative support to the library.
Mr Yahaya also appealed to alumni of the Faculty and their friends to assist the library with new books, Law reports and latest journals as he noted that their support would enhance the service delivery capacity of the library.
