UNILORIN Law Faculty launches research, media team for ranking

The Faculty of Law, University of Ilorin, has inaugurated a joint Research and Media Team as part of efforts towards boosting the University’s global ranking and strengthening its academic visibility.

The inauguration, which was held last Tuesday (September 24, 2025) at the Faculty of Law Board Room, was chaired by the Dean of the Faculty, Prof. Bashir Omipidan.

In his remarks, the Dean commended Heads of Departments, liaison officers, and staff representatives for their commitment to the initiative, which followed a presentation by the Project Ranking Manager highlighting the University’s relatively low performance on the global ranking matrix despite the Vice Chancellor’s vision of placing the institution among the world’s top universities.

Prof. Omipidan explained that the Vice Chancellor, in response, had directed all Faculties to identify and mobilise their top ten researchers into clusters that would drive impactful research outputs and collaborations. He disclosed that in line with this directive, the Faculty Board of Studies approved the establishment of the team, with each Department nominating researchers and liaison officers to anchor the project.

The Research Team comprises: Prof. H. O. Ijaiya (Private & Property Law), Rahmat Imam (Private & Property Law), Dr Lukman Abdulrauf (Public Law), Tawakalitu Queen Oyinloye (Jurisprudence and International Law), Prof. Azizat O. Amoloye-Adebayo (Islamic Law), Prof. Ibrahim Imam (Public Law), Prof. A. A. Alaro, mni (Islamic Law), Imam Abdur-Rasheed Ahmed (Jurisprudence and International Law), Prof. O. Y. Abdul-Hameed (Business Law), and Prof. Ismail Adua Mustapha (Business Law).

Similarly, the Media Team members include Dr Rilwan F. Mahmoud (Public Law), Mrs Oluwatosin R. Folagbade (Business Law), T. N. Alatise (Private & Property Law), M. I. Olohungbebe (Islamic Law), Seye Adeboye (Public Law), and Hassan Abimbola Rasheedat (Jurisprudence and International Law).

The Dean emphasised that the joint team would document and publicise research activities, conference papers, publications, and other scholarly engagements of Faculty members through the Faculty’s website and other communication platforms. He further underscored the importance of collaboration between the research cluster and the media unit, urging members to commence work immediately in close synergy with the University’s central research team.

Prof. Omipidan assured that a comprehensive report of the inauguration would be forwarded to the Vice Chancellor, reiterating the Faculty’s unwavering commitment to the University’s vision of excellence and enhanced global recognition.
