The Dean of the Faculty of Arts, University of Ilorin, Prof. Ibrahim Abdulganiyu Jawondo, has said that the University belongs to everyone.
Prof. Jawondo made this assertion last Tuesday (November 11, 2025) while featuring on “Countdown to Unilorin @ 50″, a special interview programme on UNILORIN 89.3 FM. The programme was co‑hosted by the Station Manager, Mr Idris Alooma and Mr Bunmi Obafemi.
The Dean who is a former Director of the Centre for Peace and Strategic Studies (CPSS) traced the University’s rise from a modest campus of three Faculties to a nationally‑ranked institution with 16 Faculties and over 30,000 student population.
Prof. Jawondo highlighted how the University’s steadfast commitment to academic rigour, research, and community service has produced graduates now serving Nigeria, Africa and beyond.
The Dean, who is an alumnus of the University, said that the upcoming Golden Jubilee of the University “belongs to us all.”
Prof. Jawondo noted that as the University prepares to mark its 50th anniversary, members of the University community and the nation need to be reminded that the institution’s strength lies in its people and that the golden jubilee is not just a celebration of past achievements, but a call to all stakeholders to recommit themselves to the values that have made Unilorin a beacon of learning, research, and service.
The Dean expressed hope that stakeholders would come together to shape the next half century for the University to be more renowned for excellence.
