UNILORIN inaugurates Anti-Corruption and Transparency Unit

The University of Ilorin has inaugurated its Anti-Corruption and Transparency Unit (ACTU), in collaboration with the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC), as part of efforts towards strengthening the fight against corruption within the University system.

The inauguration ceremony was held last Monday (June 30, 2025) at the University Auditorium Basement.

Speaking at the event, the Vice Chancellor of the University of Ilorin, Prof. Wahab Olasupo Egbewole, SAN, reaffirmed the University’s commitment to supporting the newly inaugurated ACTU.

The Vice Chancellor, who was represented by the Deputy Vice Chancellor (Management Services), Prof. Adegboyega Adisa Fawole, congratulated the new ACTU members on their appointment and urged them to carry out their duties diligently.

He charged them to deploy all powers entrusted them to eradicate corrupt practices on campus.

Prof. Egbewole also reminded the new ACTU members of the need to lead by example, stressing that they must remain corruption-free to effectively discharge their responsibilities.

He also expressed appreciation to the ICPC for prioritising the inauguration of the Unit, which he described as essential to ensuring a corruption-free university environment.

In his goodwill message, the ICPC Chairman, Dr Adams Aliyu, who was represented by an Assistant Commissioner, Mr Elijah Akaakohol, explained that ACTU was established to combat corruption and eliminate unethical practices in the workplace as he  stressed that the Unit is meant to support, not override the University management.

The ICPC Chairman urged  the new ACTU members to use their positions responsibly, working collaboratively with the University management and staff to achieve positive outcomes.

He also thanked the Vice Chancellor and his team for their support in making the inauguration a success.

Also speaking at the event, an Assistant Chief Superintendent of ICPC, Mr Muniru Muhammad, congratulated the new ACTU executives.

He encouraged them to demonstrate integrity, remain active, submit regular reports on their activities, and raise awareness among both staff and students about anti-corruption values.

The newly inaugurated executive members of the Unilorin ACTU include the Chairperson, Prof. Azizat O. Amoloye-Adebayo; the Secretary, Mrs  Kate Anthony Fori; Dr  Odugah Theresa Nfam, Dr Sunday Enenche Elaigwu, Dr T. O. Ayinde, Mr Adewoye M. Adebayo, Mr  Alabi Toyin Mohammed, and Mrs Khadijat M. Hassan-Abdulrahman.

 In her vote of thanks, the ACTU Chairperson, Prof. Amoloye-Adebayo expressed gratitude to the ICPC for its consistent support, which she said would help the Unit achieve its goals more effectively.

 She urged her colleagues to work diligently to deliver results by the end of their tenure.

The event also featured the formal handover of copies of the Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Act 2000 to the new ACTU members.

Dignitaries present at the event included the Deputy Vice Chancellor (Academic), Prof. Moji Taibat Bakare-Odunola; the Registrar, Mr Mansur Adeleke Alfanla; and the University Librarian, Prof. Tunde Omopupa, among others.
