Staff and students of the Department of Geophysics, University of Ilorin, have recorded exceptional achievements at the 43rd Annual International Conference and Exhibition (AICE) of the Nigerian Association of Petroleum Explorationists (NAPE), where they shone brilliantly among top geoscience professionals and institutions.
The conference, held recently in Lagos, also featured the induction of the Dean, Faculty of Physical Sciences, Prof. Bisi Adekeye, and Dr Gabriel Omolaiye of the Geophysics Department into the prestigious NAPEāUAP Hall of Fame.
In the same outing, three Geophysics students; Akanbi Abdulquddus Moyosoreoluwa, Olorunniyi Israel Oluwakorede, and Adeyemo Ayodeji Gabriel, distinguished themselves by presenting cutting-edge research outputs that drew the attention of participants and industry experts.
Speaking with UNILORIN Bulletin last Wednesday (November 19, 2025), Prof. Adekeye explained that the students’ presentations explored advanced themes such as combining well logs and seismic attributes for porosity prediction, applying Machine Learning and Physics-Informed Neural Networks (PINN) to predict missing well logs, and utilising integrated petrophysical analysis with supervised Machine Learning for lithology classification and reservoir zonation.
According to him, a major highlight of the conference was the recognition of the second paper jointly authored by Olorunniyi Israel Oluwakorede, Dr Gabriel Omolaiye, and Dr Rasaki Salami of TotalEnergies, which emerged as the Best E-Poster Presentation at the event.
These accomplishments, he added, reflect the University’s strong commitment to academic excellence, research innovation, and quality mentorship.
He said that these also demonstrate the growing competitiveness of UNILORIN students on national and international geoscience platforms.
