As the Golden Jubilee of the University of Ilorin draws nearer, the management of UNILORIN 89.3 FM has disclosed its resolve to give the celebration the best of publicity with the introduction of a special programme titled “Countdown to UNILORIN @ 50”.
The General Manager of the Station, Mr Idris Akintola Ibrahim (Alooma), stated this last Thursday (October 2, 2025) while speaking with UNILORIN Bulletin in his office on the preparation of the Station for the anniversary.
The General Manager said that the programme, which would be daily and with one hour duration, is targeted at enlightening the general public on the achievements and prospects of the University, which the celebration is all about.
He explained that as “the official electronic mouthpiece of the University,” the station and its staff are prepared to market the anniversary and the institution more than ever before.
In addition to the daily special interview programme, Mr Alooma said that the station would also be running special news commentaries, special news reports, special magazine programmes, vox pops and live coverages, among others, that would be targeted at the anniversary celebration.
Mr Alooma said that the programme would feature important stakeholders like the Vice Chancellor of the University, Prof. Wahab Olasupo Egbewole, SAN, and his predecessors as well as current and past Principal Officers.
He added that the Chairman of the Anniversary Planning Committee, the Chairmen of various Sub-committees the President of the University Alumni Association, the President of the Student Union, the leaderships of the various campus trade unions and selected leaders of the University’s host community, among others, would also be featuredon the programme.
The ace broadcaster, who congratulated the Vice Chancellor, management, staff and students of the University for the scintillating successes recorded by the institution in the last five decades, said that the maiden edition of the radio programme that will feature the Chairman of the Anniversary Planning Committee, Prof. Olugbenga Ayodeji Mokuolu, will come up on Monday, October 6, 2025 at 10:00am.
Mr Alooma encouraged members of the University community and the general public to always tune to the station and particularly to the programme, which promises to be stimulating, for them to know more about the institution and the upcoming anniversary.
