The General Manager of UNILORIN FM, Mr Idris Akintola Ibrahim (Idris Alooma) has extended a hand of partnership to the radio station of the University of Venda, South Africa, saying that the two campus radio stations can leverage the existing collaboration between the two universities for mutual benefits.
Mr Alooma, who stated this penultimate Wednesday (May 7, 2025) during a familiarisation visit by a delegation from the South African University to the studios of UNILORIN FM, noted that the UNILORIN radio station and UNIVEN Radio can partner in the areas of personnel and programme exchange, content sharing, cultural exchange, and workshops, among others.
Pointing out thatUNILORIN FM is one of the leading campus radio stations in Nigeria,the Station Manager said that the University of Ilorin remains committed to fostering partnerships and collaborations at all times, underscoring the University’s dedication to advancing knowledge, innovation, and community development.
Mr Alooma said that “the University of Ilorin stands as a beacon of academic excellence, consistently demonstrating a steadfast commitment to fostering knowledge and innovation, and building character.” He added that the dedication of the University to maintaining high moral values and academic rigour is evident in the outstanding qualities of its graduates, who are well-prepared to make meaningful contributions to society.”
The Station Manager affirmed that UNILORIN had solidified its position as a leading institution of higher learning through its robust academic programmes, cutting-edge research initiatives, and strong community engagement. He said, “By upholding the standards of excellence in all areas, the University of Ilorin continues to inspire future generations of leaders and change-makers, cementing its legacy as a pillar of academic distinction.”
Earlier in his remarks, the leader of the University of Venda delegation, Dr Takalani Dzaga, had pledged the South African university’s commitment to strengthening its collaboration with the University of Ilorin in various areas of academic excellence, research, and tourism.
Dr Takalani, who is the Director of Marketing, Branding, and Communication of the University of Venda, noted that the University of Ilorin is one of the leading institutions in Africa, pointing out that the University’s emphasis on producing well-rounded individuals equipped with the necessary skills, knowledge, and ethical foundation is truly commendable.
Introducing members of the University of Venda’s delegation, the Deputy Director, Centre for International Education (CIE), University of Ilorin, Dr. Abdulhakeem Zubair, highlighted the significance of their visit in strengthening the existing partnership between the two institutions.
During the visit, the Venda University’s delegation were interviewed live on UNILORIN FM, anchored by Mr Temitope Olawuyi, where they praised the University of Ilorin’s commitment to academic excellence and innovation.
Other members of the Venda University delegation on the visit were Mr Azwidowi Mukheli, Dean of Students; Adv. Eric Nemukula, Director, Legal Studies; Mr Kerwedy Sirhaga, Head of Student Housing; Dr Ndirhuwo Goliada, Manager, Office of the Dean of Students; Mokoena Vusi, SRC President; and Ngqanchi Asekho, SRC Secretary General, among others.
