UNILORIN FM, a legacy of excellence in campus journalism – Alooma

The General Manager of UNILORIN FM, Mr Idris Akintola Ibrahim (Alooma), has charged campus journalists to emulate the professionalism of the station’s staff members to sustain peace, harmony, unity, and development in the University.

Mr Alooma stated this last Wednesday (July 16, 2025) while delivering a lecture at the UCJ Unilorin Optic Magazine launch, titled “Eclipse: The Duality of Life – UNILORIN FM Story,” held at the Faculty of Arts Lecture Theatre.

Highlighting the Station’s contributions to the University community, the General Manager said, “With a legacy spanning 16 years, UNILORIN FM has trained approximately 5,000 individuals, bridging the gap between town and gown, and earned recognition as one of Nigeria’s best campus radio stations.”

Mr Alooma emphasised the importance of navigating dualities in campus journalism, including truth vs. fiction and objectivity vs. bias.

He stressed the need for fact-checking, diverse perspectives, and self-reflection, as well as adherence to ethics and responsible journalism principles. He also encouraged aspiring journalists to join UNILORIN FM, highlighting its training programme and opportunities for hands-on practice and certification.

He opined that by implementing these principles and practices, campus journalists can provide high-quality broadcasting and journalism services, making lasting impacts on their audience.

Pointing out that “UNILORIN FM’s legacy serves as a model for excellence in campus journalism”, Mr Alooma stressed that the impact of the radio station is a testament to its dedication to promoting academic excellence and sustaining peace in the University community.

In her remarks, Miss Oladele Hannah Boluwatife, the President of the UCJ UNILORIN Chapter, reaffirmed the commitment of Unilorin campus journalists to upholding the highest professional ethics. She expressed gratitude to the management of UNILORIN FM for its support and for providing valuable training opportunities to UCJ members.
