Seven academic staff members of the University of Ilorin have been named among the 2025 Stanford/Elsevier top 2% of leading scientists in the world.

`In an article published on https://elsevier.digitalcommonsdata.com/datasets/btchxktzyw/8, sighted by UNILORIN Bulletin, the seven scholars include an Associate Professor at the Department of Chemical Engineering, Dr Adewale George Adeniyi; Dr Mufutau Opeyemi Bello and Dr Folorunso Monsuru Ajide, both of the Department of Economics.

Others are Dr Joseph Bamidele Awotunde of the Department of Computer Science; Prof. Adeyinka Tella of the Department of Library and Information Sciences; the Director of the Institute of Medical Research and Training (IMRAT), Prof. Oladimeji Akeem Bolarinwa; and Dr Oluwatoyin Adenike Fabiyi of the Department of Crop Protection.

The website noted that “the selection is based on the top 100,000 scientists by c-score (with and without self-citations) or a percentile rank of 2% or above in the sub-field”.

“This version (7) is based on the August 1, 2025 snapshot from Scopus, updated to end of citation year 2024”, it added.

Commenting on the development, the  Vice Chancellor, Prof. Wahab Olasupo Egbewole, SAN,  expressed pleasure at the positive ratings. Prof. Egbewole, who spoke through the University’s Director of Corporate Affairs, Mr Kunle Akogun,  congratulated the academics, adding, “All members of the University community should continue to play a part in advancing the University’s excellence.”
