UNILORIN Council approves 43 new Professors

The Governing Council of the University of Ilorin has approved the promotion of 43 of its academic staff to the rank of Professor and the elevation of 40 others to the position of Reader, following the consideration of recommendations by the institution’s Appointments and Promotions Committee (A&PC).

The A&PC, at its 189th meeting last Monday (March 30, 2026), reviewed and recommended the promotions, having established that all the candidates satisfied the stipulated criteria. The report, signed by the Chairman of the Committee and Vice Chancellor, Wahab Olasupo Egbewole, SAN, confirmed that the promotions took effect from October, 2025.

The Committee’s recommendation was subsequently confirmed by the University Governing Council at its 192nd meeting held last Tuesday (March 31, 2026) at the Council Chamber.

A breakdown of the list shows that 29 of the 43 Professors were promoted at the March 30, 2026 meeting, while 14 others had earlier been confirmed at the Committee’s meeting in December 2025.

The promoted dons cut across several Faculties, including Arts, Clinical Sciences, Communication and Information Sciences, Education, Engineering and Technology, Environmental Sciences, Law, Management Sciences, Pharmaceutical Sciences, Physical Sciences, Social Sciences, Veterinary Medicine, Agriculture, and Life Sciences.

Those elevated to the rank of Professor include Dr S. A. Raji (Centre for Peace and Strategic Studies), Dr M. A. Adegboye (Department of Anaesthesia), Dr Olayinka A. Onasoga and Dr J. O. Aluko (Department of Nursing Science), as well as Dr Rasheedat M. Ibraheem (Department of Paediatrics and Child Health).

Others are Dr A. O. Bajeh (Department of Computer Science), Dr Rafiat A. Oyekunle (Department of Information Technology), Dr M. T. Bashorun and Dr M. L. Akanbi (Department of Library and Information Science), as well as Dr P. Udende and Dr R. M. Adisa (Department of Mass Communication).

Also on the list are Dr Y. Bello (Department of Arts Education), Dr M. P. Oyeniran (Department of Educational Management), Dr M. O. Ogunjimi and Dr Muinat B. Bello (Department of Social Sciences Education), as well as Dr A. S. Aremu and Dr T. S. Abdulkadir (Department of Water Resources and Environmental Engineering).

Also promoted are Dr N. A. Bello (Department of Estate Management), Dr D. A. Ariyoosu (Department of Business Law), Dr A. A. Owoade (Department of Islamic Law), Dr B. L. Ijaiya (Department of Private and Property Law), and Dr L. A. AbdulRauf (Department of Public Law).

Others include Dr Ramat T. Salman (Department of Accounting), Dr N. S. Njiga (Department of Pharmaceutical and Medical Chemistry), Dr O. Atolani (Department of Chemistry), Dr S. B. Akanbi (Department of Economics), Dr N. A. Malik (Department of Geography and Environmental Management), Dr I. D. Olorunshola (Department of Veterinary Microbiology), and Dr I. A. Odetokun (Department of Public Health and Preventive Medicine).

The 14 Professors earlier confirmed at the December 2025 A&PC meeting include Dr A. Falola (Department of Agricultural Economics and Farm Management), Dr Kemi F. Omotesho (Department of Agricultural Extension and Rural Development), and Dr K. D. Adeyemi (Department of Animal Production).

Others are Dr Oludolapo Ojediran (Department of Performing Arts), Dr Eniola R. Kadir and Dr Misturah Y. Adana (Department of Anatomy), Dr Maryam T. Ayinla and Dr L. S. Ojulari (Department of Physiology), as well as Dr E. O. Ajala, Dr E. A. Aderibigbe, and Dr A. G. Adeniyi (Department of Chemical Engineering).

Also promoted are Dr O. O. Olofintoye (Department of Water Resources and Environmental Engineering), Dr Bolanle K. Saliu (Department of Microbiology), and Dr A. B. Usman (Department of Geography and Environmental Management).
