UNILORIN at 50: VC hails massive turnout, as POGSASS congratulates Unilorites

The Vice Chancellor of the University of Ilorin, Prof. Wahab Olasupo Egbewole, SAN, has described the massive turnout at the institution’s 50th Anniversary celebration as “very impressive.”
Prof. Egbewole, who said this in an interview with the UNILORIN 89.3 FM last Monday (November 24, 2025), expressed appreciation to staff, students, supporters, and particularly the Chairman of the University Governing Council , Surv. Abiodun Aluko, for their presence at the historic event.
He added that the University community had witnessed visible manifestations of excellence throughout the anniversary week.
He appealed to the populace to continue supporting the institution in all its endeavours so it can achieve its set goals.
On the choice of the Anniversary Speaker, Prof. Egbewole explained that Prof. P. L. O. Lumumba was selected because of his vast expertise in University governance, higher education, and matters affecting African societies.
He emphasised that the selection was intentional and aligned with the core theme of the University’s Golden Jubilee.
In a related development, the Postgraduate Students’ Association (POGSASS), University of Ilorin, in a statement jointly signed by its President, Hakeem Abiodun Kuranga; General Secretary, Lawal Ibrahim Anigilaje; and Public Relations Officer, Ogundoro Kehinde Joshua, congratulated the University on its 50th Anniversary.
The Association described the Golden Jubilee as a historic moment marking five decades of sustained academic excellence, administrative stability, institutional expansion, and contributions to national development.
It noted that since its establishment in 1975, the University has grown into a respected citadel of learning admired for its discipline, continuity, and competitive scholarship.
According to the statement, “POGSASS celebrated the visionary leadership of the Vice Chancellor, Professor Wahab Olasupo Egbewole, SAN, under whom the University has recorded advancements in academic innovation, infrastructural development, global partnerships, postgraduate research support, and institutional strengthening.
The trio commended the Vice Chancellor’s commitment to maintaining the University’s legacy of peace and an uninterrupted academic calendar.
