UNILORIN a bastion of academic excellence, peace, progress – Akogun

The Director of Corporate Affairs,  University of Ilorin, Mr Kunle Akogun, has said that the University has long been recognised as a bastion of academic excellence and peace.

Mr Akogun, who stated this last Wednesday (April 9, 2025) when receiving a contingent from the Scout Association of Nigeria and Varsity Air Scout, UNILORIN  Chapter, who visited him in his office, reiterated the institution’s commitment to peacekeeping, development, and collaboration with relevant stakeholders.

The University image maker said that the academic stability, rapid progress and all-round development that the University of Ilorin is witnessing today can be attributed to the prevailing peace within the University community, noting the contribution of students’ para-military organisations on campus to peace keeping and orderliness, especially during University events like Convocation, sporting events and other crowd-pulling activities.

Mr Akogun urged the Scout Association of Nigeria and other paramilitary organisations like the Man ‘O’ War and the Cadets to join forces with the University Management to widen the vista of peaceful atmosphere on the University campus.

He emphasised the crucial role these organisations will play in the upcoming 50th anniversary celebration of the University, a milestone event, which, he said, promises to be one of the most significant in Africa’s academic history.

Mr Akogun said that the vision of the University, as encapsulated in its Vision 1:10:500, aims to dominate the world in teaching, research, and community service.

Earlier in his remarks, the Scout Association of Nigeria’s leader, Wing Commodore Scouter Ogunlade Favour, praised the University of Ilorin for its friendly, accommodating, and peaceful environment. He highlighted the Association’s focus on leadership training and peacekeeping, aligning with the core values of the University. He added that the visit was a testament to the strong relationships between the University and its stakeholders.

Scouter Ogunlade noted that the University of Ilorin’s commitment to peacekeeping, development, and collaboration is a beacon of hope for the academic community and beyond. He said, “As the institution prepares to celebrate its 50th anniversary, it is clear that its dedication to peace and development will continue to drive its success as it shapes the future of academia in Africa and beyond.”

Among the Directorate Staff that joined the Director to receive the scouters was the General Manager of UNILORIN FM, Mr Idris Alooma.
