UNILORIN @ 50: CIE holds international conference

As the upcoming Golden Jubilee Anniversary of the nation’s most sought-after University, the University of Ilorin, gathers momentum, the Institution’s Centre for International Education (CIE) will host an international conference between 15 and 17 April, 2025 at the University Auditorium.

The Director of the Centre, Prof. Lateef Onireti Ibraheem, stated this last Tuesday (February 25, 2025) while inaugurating the Local Organising Committee of the Conference, under the Chairmanship of Prof. Bolanle S. Fayomi.

               Prof. Onireti disclosed that the theme of the Conference will be “Globalizing Education: Strategies, Challenges and Sustainability”, saying that the conference will witness paper presentations by scholars and participants from all over the world.

The Director, who is a specialist in Arabic Literature and Mufti of Ojoku in the Oyun Local Government Area of Kwara State, also disclosed that panel sessions, which will be addressed by some ambassadors of various countries, will also form part of the upcoming international conference.

Prof. Onireti said that the Keynote Speaker will be the Secretary-General of the D-8 Organisation, Ambassador Isiaka Abdulkadir Imam, while the Chairman of the Conference is the Vice Chancellor of the University, Prof. Wahab Olasupo Egbewole, SAN, as the Vice Chancellor of the University of Cape Coast, Ghana, Prof. Johnson Boampong, will be the Chairman of the panel.

To ensure a successful conference, the Director said that the Local Organising Committee has been divided into different sub-committees.

The sub-committees, according to him, are Secretariat, Publicity, Technical and Logistics as well as Welfare under the Chairmanships of Prof. Bolanle S. Fayomi, Dr Sanusi, Dr AbdulHakeem Zubair and Dr Biliqis A. Lawal, respectively.

Responding, the Chairman of the Local Organising Committee, Prof. Fayomi, thanked the Management of the Centre for the opportunity granted her and her colleagues to serve.

Prof. Fayomi, who said that the Conference is targeted at sharing knowledge and projection of international best practices, promised that the Committee would deliver on its assigned task.

She, therefore, enjoined members of the Committee to be prepared to offer their best in terms of service delivery in order to enhance the internationalisation drive of the University.
