……UNILORIN muslims to join in celebration

The Chief Imam of the University of Ilorin Muslim Community, Prof. Nasir Abdussalam, has said that the Golden Jubilee of the University goes beyond merry-making as it is a celebration of excellence.

Prof. Abdussalam made this assertion last Monday(November 17, 2025) while featuring on Countdown to UNILORIN @ 50, a special personality interview programme of UNILORIN 89.3 FM.

The Chief Imam, who was represented by the immediate past Dean of the Faculty of Communication and Information Sciences, Prof. Lukman Adesina Azeez, said that the University’s growing reputation, excellence and service to humanity makes it a leading citadel of learning in Nigeria, particularly among the second generation of universities in Nigeria.

The cleric-don acknowledged the impacts of the University on national and human capital development, considering the number and quality of products of the University who are doing well across the world.

Prof. Abdussalam said that the history of the University cannot be told without adequate reference to the contributions of members of the University Muslim Community.

The Chief Imam said that members of the University Muslim Community have contributed greatly to the prevailing harmony in the University, which makes it the most peaceful campus in Nigeria, recalling that it was the administration of Prof. Is’haq Oloyede that established the University Interreligious Harmony Committee..

He said that the University Muslim community has by providence produced the largest percentage of chief executives of the University.

Prof. Abdussalam also said that the University of Ilorin Muslim Community has also produced several members who have done very well in national spheres such as Prof. Ishaq Olanrewaju Oloyede, Prof. AbdulRasheed Na’Allah and Prof. Mahofuz Adebola Adedimeji.

He added that the University of Ilorin Muslim Community has been doing so well that muslim communities of other sister universities are understudying it.

On what the University Muslim Community is doing to celebrate the milestone, Prof. Abdussalam said that the community would organise a public lecture to be delivered by a Professor of Islamic Studies, Badmas Olanrewaju Yusuf on Sunday, November 23, 2025 at the University Auditorium beginning at 10 a.m.

He added that all the past Muslim Principal Officers, members of the Muslim community who have served as Vice Chancellors of sister universities and all past Chief Imams of the community as well as prominent members like Prof. Yasir Anjola Qadir, among others are expected at the programme.

The cleric-don, who commended the Vice Chancellor, Prof. Wahab Olasupo Egbewole, SAN, for raising the bar in service delivery, promised that the Muslim staff, students and alumni of the University would continue to make the institution very proud.
