Udeh elected Chairman, UNILORIN Laity Council

A Professor in the Department of History and International Studies, University of Ilorin, Lemuel Udeh, has been elected the new Chairman of the Laity Council at Saint Thomas De Aquinas Chaplaincy (STAC) in the University.

He succeeds Prof. U. B. Eke, who now serves as an ex-officio member.

Speaking in an exclusive interview with UNILORIN Bulletin in his office, Prof. Udeh pledged his commitment to enhancing the Church’s aesthetic appeal and promoting the spiritual growth of Catholic members within the University.

The new Laity Council Chairman said he intends to improve the physical beauty of the church and promote spiritual development among church members. He disclosed that one of his key goals is to provide female hostels within the Chaplaincy premises, similar to the existing male hostel.

He also called on the Vice Chancellor to support his vision of recruiting more Catholic staff members into prominent positions left vacant by retirees. He believes it will strengthen the faith and encourage greater participation within the University Catholic Community.

Other newly elected Council members include     Dr. Ayo Babalola, Vice Chairman; Dr. Harvert Atimuda, Secretary; Mrs. Oifa, Treasurer; Prof. Felix Takim, Chairman, Project Committee; Dr. Sunday Ealua, Chairman, Works Committee; Mrs. Fatima Mary-Ex – Chairperson, Women’s Committee, Mrs. Olanike Oyeniran, Catholic Women Organisation President.

The Chaplain of STAC, Fr. Iko-Ojo, congratulated Prof. Udeh on his new role. He praised the Council’s efforts and expressed optimism about the positive changes anticipated under Prof. Udeh’s leadership.

Fr Iko-Ojo said, “With the new leadership in place, the University of Ilorin Catholic Community looks forward to a promising future marked by growth and development.”
