Two distinguished Unilorites, Prof. Mubarak Tijani  Adekilekun and Mr Habeeb Oredola, were last Monday (September 29, 2025) sworn in as Senior Advocates of Nigeria (SAN) by the Chief Justice of Nigeria, Hon. Justice Kudirat Motomori Kekere-Ekun, GCON, at the Supreme Court Complex, Abuja.

The two gentlemen were among 57 seasoned legal practitioners from all over Nigeria elevated to the prestigious rank by the Legal Practitioners Privileges Committee (LPPC) chaired by the Chief Justice of Nigeria as earlier announced by the Registrar of the Supreme Court of Nigeria, who is also the Secretary of the LPPC, Mr Kabir Eniola Akanbi.

While Prof. Adekilekun is not only a 2003 alumnus of the University but also a teacher at the institution’s Department of Business Law, Mr Oredola, a son of a retired Justice of the Court of Appeal, Justice Moshood AbdulRahman Oredola, is a private legal practitioner based in Lagos. Mr Oredola graduated from the University in 2005.

With this development, the rank of alumni and staff members of the University granted the title since the reestablishment of its Law Faculty three decades ago has risen to over  20.

Reacting, the Vice Chancellor, Prof. Wahab Olasupo Egbewole, SAN, said that the investiture was not only a proud moment for him but also for the entire members of the University Community.

In a statement signed by the University’s Director of Corporate Affairs, Mr Kunle Akogun, the Vice Chancellor said that he was delighted that the two gentlemen were found to be worthy of the honour, particularly at the time when the University is preparing to celebrate its Golden Jubilee anniversary.

The renowned Professor of Jurispudence and International Law and Secretary-General of the Association of West African Universities (AWAU), who was granted the honour about a decade ago, described the two new silks as pride of the University.

While he encouraged the duo to continue to serve as role models to others, particularly alumni and students of the University, Prof. Egbewole urged students of the University to emulate the dignity and integrity of the two new silks.

Also commenting, the Dean of the Faculty, Prof. Bashiru Omipidan, said that he was happy that the Faculty has added two new silks to its feather, saying that he was “super proud of the duo”.

He explained that from “the sitting Vice Chancellor, who got his own alongside the late Prof. Muhammad Mustapha Akanbi in 2018, the Faculty has refused to look back.”

Prof. Omipidan added that “the investiture was unique as it came when I am combining the Deanship of the Faculty with being the National President of the UNILORIN Law Alumni Association. So,it was a double victory for me, and my joy knows no  bounds.”

The Dean, who is also a former Director of the Centre for Open and Distance Learning, prayed to Allah to continue to bless the duo while praying for more to come.
