Support your alma mater, Yahya charges alumni

The Director, Advancement Centre, University of Ilorin, Prof. W. R. Yahya, has appealed to alumni and friends of the University to always extend qualitative support to the institution.
Prof. Yahya made this appeal last Tuesday (September 24, 2025) while speaking with UNILORIN Bulletin in his office.
The Director explained that it is clear that no government, no matter how endowed and benevolent, can solely shoulder the responsibility of funding a University, saying that funding of universities can only be adequately done when concerned individuals and organisations support the government.
Prof. Yahya, who teaches at the Department of Statistics, said that the University has produced thousands of distinguished alumni who are scattered across the country, explaining that it is the turn of the alumni and their friends to give back to their alma mater.
The Director explained that the University is expecting so much from its alumni and corporate organisations in order to be able to enhance its services to the present and future generations of its students and the larger society.
Speaking on the upcoming Golden Jubilee anniversary of the University, Prof. Yahya, who is also the Chairman of the Alumni Day Sub-Committee of the 50th Anniversary Planning Committee, said that his office in conjunction with the Main-Committee is leaving no stone unturned at ensuring that the upcoming celebration is well attended by the alumni of the University and their friends from all over the world.
Prof. Yahya expressed optimism that the anniversary would witness a new epoch as the anniversary would reunite the alumni with the University more than ever before.
