Dr. Olatunde B. Akanbi

Associate Professor Dr. Olatunde B. Akanbi, had his professional DVM degree and Doctoral academic training at the University of Ibadan. He had his specialty training with the European College of Veterinary Pathologists (ECVP) in Finland, Spain, and Switzerland and with the American, Armed Forces Institute of Pathology (AFIP) in Barcelona, Spain. He is a fellow of the College of Veterinary Surgeons Nigeria, (FCVSN) in Diagnostic Veterinary Pathology, and has seen the practice of Veterinary Medicine in Nigeria and five (5) other countries of the world.

He is an Associate Professor in Veterinary Pathology and former head of department of Veterinary Pathology, Faculty of Veterinary Medicine, University of Ilorin. He was consultant Veterinary Pathologist and head of Necropsy unit of the VTH before his appointment as Acting Director of the hospital. Also, he was one-time Chief Veterinary Research Officer/Consultant Pathologist at the Central Diagnostic Laboratory, National Veterinary Research Institute, in Vom, where he spent 12 years.

In his current position, he administers daily, the provision of compassionate and efficient veterinary health care services to a wide range of animal species through specialised clinics for small animal, small and large ruminants, equine, wildlife, and zoo, Avian and exotics. These Clinics are supported by a wide range of laboratory medical units, Infectious diseases ward, ICU, hospital wards, surgical theatre, and imaging services. All of these provides a great training experience for the 5th, and 6th year Clinical students of the faculty of Veterinary medicine and various interns, residents, and masters students on rotation.
