Joined the services of the University of Ilorin in July, 1992 as Assistant Lecturer in the Department of Biochemistry and rose through the rank to become a Professor of Biochemistry in 2011. Trained and supervised many postgraduate students at the Masters and Ph.D. levels. My area of research is Nutrition and Health as well as phytonutrients and phytotherapy and my contributions have advanced the understanding of liabilities of iron deficiency as well as the use of phytotherapy in the management of diseases. Currently, my research group, is incorporating/ fortifying iron into some foods to tackle iron deficiency as well as identifying natural products of benefit for iron deficiency. Apart from my experience in the University of Ilorin, I have worked in the industry both as analyst and Research and Development Officer, I am therefore well positioned to link research with industries.

Within the University, I have served in several managerial and administrative capacities at the Departmental, Faculty and University levels and presently serve as Dean, Faculty of Life Sciences, responsible for day to day administration of the Faculty. I have served as Director, Central Research Laboratories, managing the research infrastructure and facilities of the University. I was the Director, Centre for Research Development and In-House Training where I administer day to day research activities, formulating policies to advance research within the University, initiating research collaborations, sourcing grants and providing guidance for researchers including doctoral students. Additionally, I coordinated the capacity building centre of the University, organizing relevant training for staff and students of the University. I was Deputy Director, University of Ilorin Centre for International Education, Acting Head of Department between 2008 and 2010 and Sub-Dean, Faculty of Science between 2004 and 2007.

I have served as editorial board member of many academic journals and has reviewed articles for many journals. I have served as external examiner to many Universities in Nigeria and also outside Nigeria and have reviewed grant application for international grant agencies.

Nationally, I was the Coordinator, Intellectual Property and Technology Transfer office, University of Ilorin and member of the  Board of Technology Incubation Centre, Ilorin. I am a member of the Governing Council of Federal Polytechnic Nasarawa where I Chair the Research, Intervention and Collaborations Committee as well as Crown Hill University Eyenkorin, Kwara State. I  have served in the assessment of Readership and Professors for many Nigeria Universities and on many university’s accreditation panel of the National Universities Commission, Nigeria.

I am a member of many professional bodies and a Fellow of Nigeria Society of Biochemistry and Molecular Biology and Nigeria Academy of Science.
