Social Sciences Faculty takes possession of new buildings

The Faculty of Social Sciences, University of Ilorin, has formally taken possession of a newly completed administrative block and four additional classroom blocks designed to accommodate 100 students per class.

The facilities were provided as part of efforts targeted at improving the learning and working environment for staff and students of the Faculty.

The official handover ceremony took place at the project sites last Thursday (December 4, 2025).

Speaking at the event, the Dean of the Faculty, Prof. A.Y. Muhammed, described the projects as a reflection of the University Administration’s commitment to providing world-class facilities across all faculties.

He assured Nigerians that the University of Ilorin would continue to prioritise infrastructural development that supports teaching and learning.

Prof. Muhammed described the new Administrative Block and classrooms as a landmark achievement and pledged that the Faculty would ensure the proper maintenance and sustainability of the facilities.

He urged staff and students to take collective responsibility for the structures while calling on the University management to provide necessary support for their full utilisation.

The Dean also commended the Vice Chancellor, Prof. Wahab Olasupo Egbewole, SAN, for his unwavering support to the Faculty of Social Sciences and the University in general, noting that the completion of the projects marked a significant starting point for the continued development of the Faculty.

In his remarks, the Director of the Physical Planning Unit, Mr Abdulrahman Toyin Jimoh, explained that the facilities were constructed to international standards and equipped with modern solar-powered systems, water facilities, and well-positioned fire extinguishers to ensure safety.

He added that the project was initiated to enhance teaching, research, and creative practice in the humanities, stressing that the new facilities would further strengthen the University’s reputation for academic excellence.

The consultants on the project, Arc. David Ajayi and Arc. Ajibade Ayodeji, disclosed that quality and durable materials were used in the construction to ensure long-term usage of the buildings.

Also speaking, the Head of the University’s Fire Service Unit, Mr Ibrahim O. AbdulRasaq, drew the attention of users to the importance of regular servicing of the fire extinguishers, which he said should be done every six months.

Mr Ibrahim charged students to maintain the buildings and warned against the misuse of safety equipment.

Dignitaries at the event included the Director of Works, Mr Ramoni Kolawole Amoo, who was represented by Mr Robert Emmanuel, Heads of Departments in the Faculty of Social Sciences, and other members of staff.
