The Chairman of the University of Ilorin Branch of the Senior Staff Association of Nigerian Universities (SSANU), Mr Naheem Olusola Falowo, has appealed to the Kwara State Government to ensure the swift rehabilitation of the Abubakar Tafawa Balewa (Tanke) Road, Ilorin. The Road connects the University campus to the city.
Mr Falowo made this appeal last Tuesday (September 9, 2025) while speaking with UNILORIN Bulletin.
The Chairman, who spoke through the Public Relations Officer of the Association, Mrs Damilola Afelumo, said that the condition of the road is becoming more worrisome, particularly since the beginning of the ongoing raining season.
Mr Falowo said that the state of the road is impacting negatively on vehicles and motorists, saying that the bad portions of the road deserve to be fixed for the road to match the exciting quality of the newly unveiled Babatunde Idiagbon Flyover Bridge.
The SSANU Chairman explained that his appeal is hinged on the fact that the University of Ilorin is currently preparing for two major events that would attract visitors from all over Nigeria and beyond.
He noted that the number and quality of individuals and groups that would come to the University for the 40th Convocation Ceremonies and 50th anniversary celebration is another reason why he believed that the road should be repaired.
Mr Falowo thanked the Kwara State Government for its fraternity and support to the University, particularly SSANU members.
He promised that members of the Association would continue to discharge their civic responsibilities towards stimulating the peace and progress of the state and the nation at large.
