In a move that cements its status as a leader in digital transformation, the University of Ilorin on Monday (March 9, 2026) officially launched its Portfolio-Based Learning Management System (LMS).

Integrated directly into the University’s Scalable Enterprise Portal, this milestone marks a significant leap forward in the institution’s commitment to ICT-driven education.

The deployment, facilitated by technical partner SchoolTry AB Limited, was strategically timed to kickstart the new semester. The system is currently hosting a two-week period of fully online classes, allowing undergraduate students to engage in academic activities from home until after the Eid-el-Fitr celebrations.

Speaking on the latest development, the Director of Computer Services and Information Technology (COMSIT), Prof. Rasheed Gbenga Jimoh, said this transition is not just a temporary measure but a strategic move towards a more flexible, 21st-century academic environment.

He added that the new LMS offers a robust suite of digital tools designed to enhance the student experience, especially with its features, which include comprehensive courseware, interactive e-assignments, asynchronous forums, and virtual classrooms, dedicated spaces for peer-to-peer and student-lecturer discussions.

Prof. Jimoh, who is a former Dean of the Faculty of Communication and Information Sciences, also emphasised that UNILORIN is now uniquely positioned to lead ICT integration discussions within the Nigerian tertiary education sector.

“Prior to the full deployment of the LMS, the University had already achieved over 80 percent automation of its processes,” Prof. Jimoh noted, highlighting the institution’s long-term digital roadmap.

The University Administration, led by the Vice Chancellor, Prof. Wahab Egbewole, SAN, has received widespread praises for this feat. Parents, staff, and students alike have commended the move for its convenience, noting that it eliminates the immediate pressure of travel while ensuring the academic calendar remains on track.

This development reflects a growing trend in global education where physical boundaries are no longer a barrier to high-quality learning.
