Promote UNILORIN’s image, Abdulbaqi urges CISSA students

The Dean of the Faculty of Communication and Information Sciences (CIS), University of Ilorin, Prof. Saudat Salah Abdulbaqi, has called on students, particularly new ones, to join other Unilorites in promoting and protecting the image of the Institution and also abide by its rules and regulations in order to ensure timely completion of their academic programmes without hitches.
Prof. Abdulbaqi made this appeal last Thursday (November 20, 2025) while speaking at the Communication and Information Science Students Association (CISSA) Freshers Orientation Day at the Faculty Lecture Theatre.
The Dean advised the new students to map out plans for themselves on how to acquire academic excellence through total commitment and dedication to justify the true picture of the University’s slogan of “Better by far”, and guide against any misconduct that can lead to their expulsion from the University.
Prof. Abdulbaqi explained that the keywords behind the slogan of the University as better by far include, excellence, integrity and discipline, as she called on students to strive to achieve all these through personal commitment and determination. He also urged the students to pursue First Class honours in their various programmes of studies.
The Dean also enjoined the students to join the Federal Government campaign against open defecation, and ensure that the campaign kick starts from them here.
Prof. Abdulbaqi equally commended the management of the University, under the leadership of the Vice Chancellor, Prof. Wahab Olasupo Egbewole, SAN , for providing the needed facilities to ensure that the campaign takes effect on campus.
Also speaking, the Faculty Officer, Mr Issa Ismail, who was represented by Mrs Aminat Akogun-Jolayemi, called on students to engage in timely registration of their coursesĀ to avoid any problem before and after the examination and ensure that their course forms are duly signed.
On her part, the Faculty Counsellor, Mrs Sherifat Tinuke Oniye, spoke extensively on mental health, stressing that good mental health plays a key role in everything we do. She, therefore, advised students to maintain good mental health and stay physically active in the pursuit of their academic programmes.
