OOGSOSA honours Akogun, others at 2025 Reunion

The Director of Corporate Affairs, University of Ilorin, Mr Kunle Akogun, has been conferred with the prestigious Award of Excellence by the Oke Ode Grammar School Old Students’ Association (OOGSOSA), in recognition of his outstanding contributions to public communication, institutional development, and community advancement.

The honour was presented to Mr  Akogun penultimate Saturday (November 22, 2025) during the Association’s annual gathering where distinguished alumni and stakeholders celebrated notable achievements among alumni of the School.

Mr Akogun is one of the 33 distinguished old students of the School honoured at the 2025 Reunion of the Association.

According to the organisers, the award is reserved for individuals who have demonstrated remarkable leadership, professional excellence, and impactful service to the society. Mr Akogun, a seasoned journalist, public relations expert, and administrator, was described as a shining example of integrity and commitment in the discharge of his duties.

Other old students who were  similarly honoured include the first Head Girl of the 56 year-old school, Alhaja Wosilat  Romoke Jimoh; Alhaji Azeez K. Olawuyi, Chief Kayode Awotunde, Alhaji Lateef  Audu; Hajia Afusatu Bola Mahmoud; Oba Prof. Stephen Billy Olajide, Prof. Rotimi Ogidan, Mallam Nuraini Olatunji, Prof. Oladipo Ajiboye, Akogun Tunde Ibrahim, and Prof. Sikiru Lanre Nurudeen, among others.

In his remarks, the President of OOGSOSA, Sheik Ismail Aremu Abdulsalam, praised Mr Akogun’s long-standing record of excellence, noting that his contributions at the University of Ilorin have continued to elevate the institution’s public image and strengthen its communication strategy.

“Mr Akogun has consistently demonstrated professionalism, dedication, and passion. He remains an inspiration to many within and beyond our alumni community,” he said.

Sheik Abdulsalam specifically noted that Mr Akogun facilitated the donation of a fully equipped ICT Centre to the school by the Nigeria Coummnuication Commission (NCC) in 2018.

Colleagues and friends of the awardee also expressed delight over the recognition, describing it as well-deserved. They highlighted his decades-long career marked by innovation, mentorship, and unwavering commitment to institutional growth.

In his remarks, Mr Akogun,  who  thanked the Association for the honour. reaffirmed his commitment to excellence and service.

He thanked the President of the Supreme Pacesetters Club and former NCC Commissioner, Barrister Bayo Atoyebi for facilitating the ICT Centre donation.

He dedicated the award to his colleagues at the University of Ilorin, noting that “any achievement is always a product of collective effort.”
