The death has been announced of a former University Librarian, University of Ilorin, Dr Olusegun Omoniyi.

            Dr Omoniyi, who held the position between 2012 and 2017, died last Friday (August 15, 2025) after a brief illness.

           A statement by the family of the deceased explained that burial arrangements will be announced soon.

           Meanwhile, the Vice Chancellor, Prof. Wahab Olasupo Egbewole, SAN, has expressed rude shock at the news of the death of the former University Librarian.

            Prof. Egbewole, who led some members of his management team  I n a condolence visit to the late Dr. Omoniyi’s home last Saturday, described the late Dr Omoniyi as a diligent and resourceful scholar of Library and Information Sciences who worked for the greatness of the University.

             The Vice Chancellor sympathised with tge family, friends and colleagues of Dr Omoniyi as he prayed to God to rest his gentle soul in peace.

            In his own reaction, the University Librarian, Prof. Kamaldeen Tunde Omopupa, said that Dr Omoniyi was an enterprising librarian, who worked tirelessly to reposition the University Library during his tenure.

           He added that it was unfortunate that Dr Omoniyi died at a time when his counsels and experiences were most needed by the University Library and professional librarians across the nation.

             Prof. Omopupa prayed to God to forgive his shortcomings and comfort all those he left behind.
