The Registrar of the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB), Prof. Is-haq Olanrewaju Oloyede, CON, has praised the University of Ilorin for its exemplary compliance record, stating that the institution “has never disappointed” the Board in any regulatory matter.
Prof. Oloyede made this assertion last Thursday (November 27,2025) while speaking at the commissioning of the JAMB Merit Award International Hostel, a newly completed 29-room, 116-bed facility equipped with solar power, en-suite conveniences, and a common room for students and visitors.
According to him, UNILORIN remains a model of discipline and administrative excellence in Nigeria’s higher education sector.
Prof. Oloyede, who is a former Vice Chancellor of the University, added that UNILORIN emerged first among institutions considered for JAMB’s ₦500 million intervention fund, making it the second University to benefit from the support.
He applauded the Governing Council and management of the University for sustaining the institution’s long-standing reputation for integrity and accountability.
Earlier, the Vice Chancellor, Prof. Wahab Olasupo Egbewole, SAN, acknowledged the importance of the project to students’ welfare and commended the contractor, Ayeloja Nigeria Limited for its commitment and cooperative spirit.
Prof. Egbewole emphasised that the solar-powered system and the layout of the building were designed to ensure sustainability, comfort, and reduced operational costs.
The Director, Physical Planning Unit(PPU) of the University, Mr AbdulRahman Toyin Jimoh, explained that the hostel consists of 29 fully en-suite rooms with kitchens and toilets, and accommodates four students per room, totalling 116 bed spaces with common room for visitors.
He commended the contractor, Ayeloja Nigeria Limited, for delivering the project with exceptional professionalism and minimal supervision.
According to him, the contractor frequently undertook additional tasks beyond the agreed quantities without resistance, reducing the stress typically associated with project supervision.
Mr Jimoh appealed to the Vice Chancellor to formally commend the contractor so that the University could continue to attract partners of such quality.
He further noted that the building is powered by solar energy due to national power challenges, ensuring reduced energy costs, including a common room for receiving visitors without disturbing the students.
In his remarks, the representative of the contractor, Ayeloja Nigeria Limited, Engr Omotosho Lukman, expressed appreciation to the University for the opportunity to handle the project, stating that the tight completion timeline made the work challenging.
“It was tough due to the time frame, but we thank God we are through now. Alham
