The Vice Chancellor of Ojaja University, Eyenkorin, Ilorin, and Chairman of the UNILORIN FM Board, Prof. Jeleel Olasunkanmi Ojuade, has commended the leadership qualities of the Vice Chancellor of the University of Ilorin, Prof. Wahab Olasupo Egbewole,SAN, describing him as “a plain, truthful and superb administrator”.
Prof. Ojuade made this remark during an interview on Unilorin FM’s “Countdown to UNILORIN @50”, anchored by the Station’s Manager, Mr Idris Alooma, and Mr Bunmi Obafemi last Tuesday (November 18, 2025).
He highlighted Prof. Egbewole’s exceptional leadership qualities and commitment to excellence, noting that his plain and truthful nature has earned him respect and admiration from his peers and colleagues. “Egbewole is a leader of integrity, and his commitment to excellence is evident in all aspects of his work,” Prof. Ojuade said, adding that Egbewole’s superb administrative skills have been instrumental in driving the University of Ilorin’s growth and development, making it one of the premier institutions of higher learning in Nigeria.
Prof. Ojuade also commended the University of Ilorin’s commitment to excellence and its impact on the nation’s educational landscape.
He emphasised that “all projects in the University of Ilorin are Legacy projects” and affirmed that the University has contributed immensely to his career and continues to contribute.
Prof. Ojuade also urged stakeholders to prioritise funding for universities, citing the UNESCO recommendation of allocating 26% of a country’s budget to education. He lamented that Nigeria currently allocates only 7.5% of its budget to education, emphasising that this is insufficient to meet the country’s educational needs.
Addressing students of the University, Prof. Ojuade emphasised the importance of upholding the University’s core values, saying, “Let the spirit and culture of University of Ilorin be with you for life, and it will open doors to different goals for you”.
