The Ag. Director of Open, Distance and E-Learning at the National Universities Commission (NUC), Dr. Funmilayo Morebise, has commended the competence of staff and the quality of the Centre for Open and Distance Learning (CoDL) programme at the University of Ilorin.

Dr. Morebise gave the commendation last Thursday (August 14, 2025) when she led an NUC team on a visit to the Vice-Chancellor, following the completion of a post-validation assessment of the CoDL programme.

While expressing confidence in the Centre’s capacity to significantly increase its student population in the coming years, the team leader said that the team noticed a high level of dedication and professionalism of the staff, as well as high standard of teaching in the CoDL students’ performance.

Dr Morebise explained that the visit was aimed at adding value to the programme rather than merely conducting an inspection.

She, however, encouraged stronger collaboration between CoDL and the Department of Computer Science of the University to ensure that students have access to the facilities of the Department and are integrated into its academic community.

In his remarks, the Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Wahab Olasupo Egbewole, SAN, appreciated the NUC team for its commitment to the assignment.

The Vice-Chancellor assured the team that the University would continue to meet and surpass minimum requirements to enhance the programme, drawing from best practices observed in other institutions and with the determination to exceed them in the near future.
