More Faculties get new Deans

*Olaitan heads Education; Abdulbaqi, CIS; Omipidan, Law; Olawumi, Basic Clinical Sciences

More Faculties in the University of Ilorin have elected new Deans in a wave of change of batons. All the new Deans will assume offices on August 1, 2025.

At the Faculty of Education, a Professor of Health Promotion and Environmental Health Education, and former Director of the Advancement Centre, Olukunmi Lanre Olaitan, was elected to take over from the outgoing Dean and Professor of Educational Guidance and Counselling, Lasiele Alabi Yahaya.

Prof. Olaitan was elected last Monday (July 14, 2025).

               At the Faculty of Communication and Information Sciences, a Professor of Mass Communication, and former Ag. Head of the Department of Mass Communication, Saudat Salah Abdulbaqi, emerged as the new Dean following an election held last Wednesday (July 16, 2025).

               She takes over from a fellow Mass Communication Professor, Lukman Adeshina Azeez.

At the Faculty of Law, a former Director, Open and Distance Learning (ODL), Prof. Bashir Omipidan was elected the new Dean in the election that held last Wednesday (July 16, 2025).

He takes over from Prof. Nimah Modupe AbdulRaheem, who teaches in the Department of Jurisprudence and International Law.

At the Faculty of Clinical Sciences, Prof. Hannah O. Olawumi of the Department of Haematology has been elected the new Dean.

The four elections, described as free, fair, credible and democratic by participants and observers, were witnessed by members of the Faculty Boards, academic staff, senior non-teaching staff and observers from other Faculties.

In separate interviews with UNILORIN Bulletin after their emergence, the four Deans-elect thanked their colleagues for considering them worthy of leading their respective Faculties at this particular time in  the history of the University.

The dons, who have previously held key leadership positions within and outside the University, promised to provide exemplary leadership and also take their Faculties to higher heights.
