The Mass Communication Alumni Association, University of Ilorin (MCAAUIL), has congratulated Prof. Saudat Salah Abdulbaqi, on her election as the new Dean of the Faculty of Communication and Information Sciences.
Prof. Abdulbaqi, a former Head of the Department of Mass Communication and first female Professor of Mass Communication in the University, assumed office as the new Dean on August 1, 2025.
In a letter addressed to her by the President and General Secretary of the Association, Dr Abdulgaffar Arikewuyo and Dr. Aderemi Adeagbo, respectively, MCAAUIL said, “Those of us who passed through your tutelage are neither surprised nor startled by this achievement. Rather, we consider it a natural depth, and principled disposition.”
“As our former lecturer, many of us recall with admiration your unique ability to combine diligence, and the courage to stand by one’s convictions. You are not only a teacher, but also a mentor, a counsellor, and a role model. You taught us approachability with discipline, warmth with firmness, and friendship with high expectations.”
In a separate letter to the newly appointed Director of the General Studies Division, University of Ilorin, Prof. Lambe Kayode Mustapha, the Association commended the Vice Chancellor, Prof. Wahab Egbewole, SAN, on the “thoughtful and strategic appointment” of Prof. Mustapha.
The Association observed that the appointment of Prof. Mustapha “is not only commendable, but it also reflects a deep understanding of the values and leadership qualities required at such a critical moment in the growth of our University. It is indeed reassuring to see that merit, integrity, and service are being rightly recognised and entrusted with responsibility.”
“We assure the Vice Chancellor and the University management of our full support, and we pray that this appointment will lead to far-reaching positive impact across the institution and beyond”, the statement added.
The Association reminded Prof. Mustapha that “your appointment as Director of GNS presents not only an opportunity for service but also a test of leadership and integrity. We trust that you will rise to this task with the courage, clarity, and the ability to unify diverse voices. We encourage you to be bold in reimagining the role of General Studies in shaping well-rounded graduates who possess not just technical competence and commitment that have long defined your career. It is a role that calls for vision, innovation, but social consciousness and ethical strength.”
In another letter addressed to the immediate past Dean of the Faculty of Communication and Information Sciences, Prof. Lukman Adesina Lukman Azeez, on the successful completion of his tenure, the Association said, “Your term in office was nothing short of transformative.”
It said, “Under your able leadership, the Faculty witnessed a remarkable turnaround in innovation, academic excellence, administrative vision, and an unwavering commitment to progress”, adding that “you steered the ship with intelligence, clarity of years to come.”
