The 2009 graduating set of the Department of Mass Communication, University of Ilorin, has donated a sum of ₦500,000 to sponsor an award for the Best Graduating Student in the Department.

The award will be presented annually to the most outstanding graduating student in the Department, starting from the 2025 convocation ceremony.

This was announced in a letter signed by the Coordinator of the Project and President of the Mass Communication Alumni Association, UNILORIN (MCAAUIL), Dr. Abdulgaffar Arikewuyo, and addressed to the Deputy Registrar, Senate, University of Ilorin, Mrs Kafayat Afolayan.

The letter expressed the Association’s gratitude to the University and the Department of Mass Communication for the impact they had on their lives and careers.

The 2009 set, which is the pioneer set of the Department, has been actively involved in giving back to the Department. The set had earlier renovated the departmental newsroom, upgrading it to meet the 21st-century standards with state-of-the-art facilities.

The award is expected to motivate and encourage students to excel academically and professionally. The association hopes that this gesture will inspire future sets to continue this tradition and support the success of future students.
