Management team reshuffle, good for the system — Ambali, Omotesho
The immediate past Deputy Vice Chancellors (Management Services and Academic), Prof. Suleiman Funsho Ambali, and Prof. Abayomi Olubunmi Omotesho, have appraised the recent management reshuffle in which they were replaced after two years in office, saying that it is for the good of the University.
Speaking with UNILORIN Bulletin in separate interviews last Tuesday (January 28, 2025), the duo noted that the exercise was done in good faith, pledging to continue to work for the success of the University Administration.
They thanked the Vice Chancellor, Prof. Wahab Olasupo Egbewole, SAN, for the opportunity given them to serve the University as Deputy Vice Chancellors in the last two years.
They also congratulated the two new Deputy Vice Chancellors, Prof. Moji Taibat Bakare-Odunola and Prof. Muhtar Etudaiye on their elections as Deputy Vice Chancellor(Academic) and Deputy Vice Chancellor (Research, Technology and Innovation), respectively.
The duo also rejoiced with their colleague, Prof. Adegboyega Adisa Fawole, on his posting to the Management Services portfolio from his previous position of Deputy Vice Chancellor (Research, Technology and Innovation).
Specifically, Prof. Ambali described Prof. Egbewole, who is also the Secretary-General of the Association of West African Universities (AWAU), as a wonderful and hardworking leader who means well for the University.
He disclosed that he had since returned to his previous position as a lecturer at his Department in the Faculty of Veterinary Medicine.
Prof. Ambali’s views were shared by the former Deputy Vice Chancellor (Academic), Prof. Omotesho, who said that the changes had been effected to bring fresh ideas and perspectives into the management of the University.
In a telephone chat with UNILORIN Bulletin, Prof. Omotesho, who expressed gratitude to the Vice Chancellor for the opportunity given him to serve at that level, described Prof. Egbewole as a complete gentleman who is also very passionate about the development of the University of Ilorin.
He added that the Vice Chancellor is very intelligent and hardworking, which makes him deserving of the nickname, “Mr Efficiency”, given to him by his students.
Prof. Omotesho said that he had a “very good chemistry” and a “telepathic relationship” with the Vice Chancellor as he said that, as intellectuals, issues are usually debated as a result of one disagreement or the other but once consensus is reached they are all bought into it.
He added that he never abandoned his primary duties even when serving as Deputy Vice Chancellor, he had continued with teaching, supervision and offering of other services, which he has been doing since he joined the services of the University in March, 1984.
