As the University of Ilorin prepares for its Golden Jubilee, the Deputy Vice Chancellor (Management Services) of the University, Prof. Adegboyega Adisa Fawole, has appealed to staff, students and other stakeholders, particularly alumni of the University, to pull their resources together towards making the University greater.
Prof. Fawole gave this advice recently in a chat with UNILORIN Bulletin in his office.
The renowned medical scholar, who was delighted with the upcoming 50th anniversary of the University, said that the milestone deserves to be celebrated with pomp and pageantry particularly by its alumni.
He was particularly happy that the University is renowned for peace, saying that the enduring peace pervading the University environment is a big mark.
The Deputy Vice Chancellor, who is a 1984 medical alumnus of the University, said that the institution has given its alumni so much and that it is now their turn to reciprocate.
He said that the University, like other institutions, requires the support of every internal and external stakeholder to be able to discharge its responsibilities to the fullest, noting that the University has recorded transformation in all phases.
Prof. Fawole, who is also the Chairman of the Ceremonials Committee of the University, said that while staff are expected to put in their maximum best in service delivery that would enhance the achievements of the corporate objectives of the University, that students must also be law-abiding and face their studies squarely.
He, therefore, charged all to offer their contributions towards the successful celebration of the University and its impacts for the benefit of the present and future generations of students.
Assessing the progress of the University so far, Prof. Fawole, who commended the administrative ingenuity of the Vice Chancellor, Prof. Wahab Olasupo Egbewole, SAN, said that the University has expanded tremendously in infrastructural facilities and positive reputations over the years.
He added that the University is moving fast in every aspect as he said that it is also doing well in students and staff welfare.
Prof. Fawole, who previously held the position of Deputy Vice Chancellor(Research, Technology and Innovation) commended the staff of the University for the good roles they are playing in nurturing students, saying that staff have turned themselves to parents just to ensure that youth restiveness is curbed in the University.
On a personal note, Prof. Fawole said that he felt honoured that his career is interwoven with the history of the University, recalling that he had been a part and parcel of the University right from its formative years when he relocated to the GRA Staff Quarters of the University along with his father, Prof. Moses Oyeleke Fawole, on becoming a staff of the then young University in 1977.
Prof. Fawole said that it is glorious sitting in the same office once occupied by his father as he promised to continue to do his best towards elevating the University to higher pedestals.
