The Dean of the Faculty of Environmental Sciences, University of Ilorin, Prof. Ganiyu Amuda-Yusuf, has charged students to familiarise themselves with the rules governing student associations in the University in order to excel in their operations.
Speaking at the inauguration of the new executives of the National Environmental Sciences Students Association (NESSA) last Wednesday (July 30, 2025) at the Faculty Boardroom, Prof. Amuda-Yusuf emphasised the importance of knowing the rules that guide against examination malpractices and other forms of misconduct.
The Dean highlighted the reputation of the University of Ilorin for academic excellence and zero tolerance for immoral acts.
The Executive Council members inaugurated include the President, Awoyemi Mubarak Omotayo, from the Department of Architecture; the Vice President, Abogunrin Mariam from the Department of Quantity Surveying; the General Secretary,Odoh Paul Gabriel from the Department of Estate Management; the Assistant General Secretary, Raji Evelyn Omolayo from the Department of Architecture; and Welfare Secretary, Salman Abdulhameed from the Department of Architecture.
Others are the Social Secretary, Ola-Akanbi Adefiresola A. from the Department of Surveying and Geoinformatics and the Sport Secretary, Olarewaju Oluwafemi from the Department of Architecture.
In his remarks, the newly inaugurated President of NESSA, Awoyemi Mubarak Omotayo, called for collective action, saying,”This administration will not succeed alone. I urge every NESSAite to join hands with us, share their ideas,criticisms, and active participation.
Together, we will build a NESSA that excels in academics, innovation, and unity.
The Sub-Dean of the Faculty, Dr S. B. Oladimeji, advised the new executives to work together as a team and view unionism as a training ground to build strong relationships and become future leaders.
“Try to be good ambassadors of the Faculty wherever you find yourselves”, he said.
Also speaking at the inauguration, the Faculty Officer, Mr Leye Oluwole, congratulated the inaugurated executives and admonished them on the need to serve their colleagues well. He also urged them to avoid self-enrichment and abusive language in responding to students’ requests.
The outgoing President, Comrade Odukoya Fawaz, expressed appreciation to the Faculty management for its support, which enabled him to excel during his tenure.
Tha inauguration was witnessed by several members of staff of the Faculty.
