Newly promoted academic and non-teaching staff members of the University of Ilorin have been charged to work harder and serve as role-models in their various units and the University at large in order to justify their promotion.
This advice was given by the Registrar of the University, Mr Mansur Adeleke Alfanla, while speaking with UNILORIN Bulletin in his office last Wednesday(October 15, 2025).
Mr Alfanla, who congratulated the beneficiaries on their career progression, said that “to whom much is given much is expected” as he assured all that the management of the University would continue to reward diligence and integrity.
The Registrar said that those who, by the latest promotion, had attained the pinnacles of their careers as staff of the University and others must show that they are worthy of their new positions by remaining hardworking and exemplary.
He added that it would be disappointing to the authorities of the University if those who were elevated to the ranks of Professor or Deputy Registrar and their equivalent in other cadres show a lukewarm attitude to their jobs simply because they have attained the apex.
The Registrar reminded them that there are still other positions within and outside the University that they can be appointed into if they justify their positions, saying that those who are promoted to the rank of Professor can become Deans of their respective Faculties or even Vice Chancellor at the University or elsewhere. He added that those promoted to either the rank of Deputy Registrar or Deputy Bursar and Deputy Director are just a step away from the privileged positions of Registrar or Bursar and Director as the case may be.
Mr Alfanla commended the Vice Chancellor, Prof. Wahab Olasupo Egbewole, SAN, for ensuring that all those who deserved promotion were not denied the privilege.
He explained that the University does not have a backlog of promotion, saying that more of the qualified and competent staff of the institution would be promptly promoted.
Speaking on other issues, the Registrar decried acts of indiscipline among staff members of the University, saying that it was high time that they purged themselves of lateness, laziness and every form of indiscipline, which he said are inimical to their career growth and the progress of the University.
Mr Alfanla warned that the management would not hesitate to deal appropriately with whoever violates the rules and regulations of the University.
