The Director of Physical Planning, University of Ilorin, Mr AbdulRahman Toyin Jimoh, has lauded the Vice Chancellor of the University, Prof. Wahab Olasupo Egbewole, SAN, for consistently attracting and executing critical physical development projects across the University.
Mr Jimoh, who is a former Chairman of the Kwara State Chapter of the Nigerian Institute of Quantity Surveyors (NIQS), gave this commendation last Monday (December 30, 2024) while speaking with UNILORIN Bulletin in his office.
The astute construction manager said that four new projects located in different parts of the University were initiated towards the end of last year.
These projects, according to the Director, are the Administrative Building Annex for the use of the Bursary Division, which is being funded through the Federal Government’s capital appropriation; and an International Students’ Hostel funded from the money realised from the Merit Award won by the University from the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) following its emergence as the nation’s most subscribed University last year.
He explained that while the first project is located by the Office of the Students Industrial Work Experience Scheme (SIWES) opposite the Old Faculty of Arts Building, the second project is located directly opposite the Trunil Hostel along the road leading to the Department of Works.
Mr Jimoh also mentioned a storey building of four Lecture rooms at the Faculty of Social Sciences that is being funded from the 2024 Annual Intervention as the third project and a Lecture Theatre at the College of Health Sciences that is being funded from the 2024 Tertiary Education Trust Fund annual intervention.
The Director said that the projects were designed to provide solutions to some challenges, saying that their completion and subsequent use would enhance service delivery at the University.
Mr Jimoh also said that the project would also enhance the aesthetics beauty of the University and make the campus more alluring to members of the University community and visitors.
He added that the projects are designed to be smart buildings with the full complement of solar panels to reduce energy cost.
On the completion date of the projects, the Director gave assurance that each of them would be delivered on schedule as the contractors handling them are not denied of funds needed to get them delivered according to specifications.
Mr Jimoh added that his Unit is doing everything to ensure that the right quantity and quality of materials are being used to ensure that the projects stand the test of time.
The Director called on alumni and friends of the University in the corporate world to support the developmental aspirations of the Vice Chancellor through the building and donation of projects to the University.
He added that such investments would be projected and protected by the University authorities to provide maximum service delivery to the nation’s future leaders who are consistently choosing the University to pursue their academic aspirations.
