The University of Ilorin has received three new motorcycles from Item7, a food delivery company, to enhance security operations within the campus.
Speaking during the presentation last Monday(October 6, 2025), the Operational Manager of Item7go, Mr Daniel Moses, said the gesture was part of the company’s commitment to giving back to the society where its business journey began.
“For us as a company, we feel it is the right thing to do to give back to the society. This is where we started, and no matter how big we grow, we will always remember home. We will keep supporting the University community whenever we can, by God’s grace,” he stated.
He urged the users of the donated motorcycles to deploy them strictly for security purposes, noting that safety remains a collective responsibility.
“Security is everyone’s business. We all know the situation in the country, and we must remain vigilant. The motorcycles should be used for their intended purpose to strengthen campus security,” he added.
The Director of Security Services at the University, Mr Paul Bamidele Ogidi, expressed deep appreciation to Item7 Go, describing the donation as a valuable contribution to the institution’s safety efforts.
Mr Ogidi said, “We are very grateful for what you have done for this University, especially in enhancing security coverage.
This is not the first time Item7go is supporting us. About two or three years ago, you also donated two new motorcycles.
‘‘It is a continuous exercise, and we pray that God continues to reward and uplift your business,” he remarked.
The Dean of Student Affairs, Dr Alex Akanmu, commended the company for its thoughtful and consistent support to the University community, describing the donation as a reflection of genuine corporate social responsibility and lasting partnership.
“This gesture from Item7 shows that the company understands the value of giving back to the environment that nurtured its growth. It is not just an act of generosity but one of responsibility, partnership, and community building,” he said.
Dr Akanmu further noted that the donation would go a long way in complementing the University’s ongoing efforts to maintain a safe and conducive environment for learning, research, and social development.
He said,“We are deeply grateful for this kind gesture. It will improve mobility for our security personnel and strengthen surveillance on campus. Safety is central to our vision for a peaceful and productive university environment. We look forward to sustaining this collaboration with Item7 Go and other partners in progress.”
He added that “the University administration deeply appreciates this kind donation. We consider this not just as a gift but as a reaffirmation of shared responsibility for the safety of lives and property within our campus.”
