By Abubakar Imam

The Director of the Computer Services and Information Technology Centre (COMSIT), University of Ilorin, Prof. Rasheed Gbenga Jimoh, has said that the proposed Innovation Hub allocated to the University by the Federal Government will be a game-changer in the University’s service delivery.

Prof. Jimoh stated this last Monday (June 23, 2025) while speaking with UNILORIN Bulletin in his office.

The Director, who is a former Dean of the Faculty of Communication and Information Sciences, said that the hub, when completed and put to use, would be of tremendous benefits to members of the University community, particularly the students.

He added that the University would also make the hub available for staff and students of KU8 members as itwould be capable of accommodating more than 1,000  users at a time.

Prof. Jimoh said that the project is a special intervention initiative that is targeted at encouraging innovative thinking and dispositions in the youth for them to become self-reliant.

He added that the hub would empower the youth to transition from job-seeking mentality to wealth creation mentality.

Prof. Jimoh said that the project is a carefully designed mechanism of turning the youths to nurturers of ideas, pointing out that the project would enable the University to produce many Bill Gates among its students.

He described the proposed project as a big one for the University of Ilorin, saying that only very few universities are benefiting from over ₦400 billion that would be expended on all the projects across the country.

He said that the hub would be a thinking room for the University that would make its staff and students to rule the world.

On how the University became one of the beneficiaries of the project, Prof. Jimoh said that it was a product of careful competitive bidding, pointing out that the University prepared and presented an excellent proposal.

He added that the visitation made to the University by decision makers also convinced them that the University has what it would take to host the project.

Prof. Jimoh, therefore, charged staff and students of the University to be fully prepared for them to benefit from the project. He advised them to acquire competence in the exploration of Artificial Intelligence.

He urged the students, particularly, to benefit from the life-changing opportunity that is coming their way, saying that the opportunity can only be enjoyed if they have the mental and intellectual requirements.

He added that the University would soon come up with mechanisms through which students would be selected to benefit from the initiative as he said that only those who are truly worthy would benefit.
