ILUMSA reaffirms commitment to academic excellence at Adeboye Cerebral Tussle

The University of Ilorin Medical Students Association (ILUMSA) has reaffirmed its commitment to academic excellence and the holistic development of medical students.
This assurance was contained in the message delivered at the 2026 Prof. M.A.N. Adeboye Cerebral Tussle, an annual academic quiz competition, themed “Standing on the Shoulders of Giants,” held penultimate Friday (March 27, 2026) at Lecture Hall B, College of Health Sciences.
The event, which drew about 200 attendees, including distinguished academics and medical professionals, was organised by Febrile Academia, the ILUMSA Quiz Club. It was instituted in honour of Prof. M.A.N. Adeboye of the Department of Paediatrics, University of Ilorin Teaching Hospital (UITH), to promote intellectual excellence, foster healthy academic rivalry, and strengthen collaboration among medical students across levels.
Delivering the keynote address, the sponsor of the competition, Prof. Adeboye, emphasised the value of continuous learning, mentorship, and discipline in shaping future medical professionals.
He further stressed the need for students to remain committed to academic diligence and professional ethics in their pursuit of excellence.
Prof. Adeboye also called for sustained participation in intellectual engagements that build capacity and prepare students for global medical practice.
Five cross-level teams—Team Jenner, Team Osler, Team Paracelsus, Team McBurney, and Team Vesalius—competed for a total prize of ₦130,000.
Team Jenner emerged as the overall winner, with Ahula Ambrose (600L) also clinching the Best Quizzer Award for his outstanding performance. Team Osler secured the second place, while Team Paracelsus finished third.
Members of the winning Team Jenner included Yusuf Islamiyat (500L), Dada Oluwadara (Old 400L), Owolalye Amos (New 400L), Abdulrahman Abdquadri Kolawole (300L), and Alaran Abdulmalik Olawale (200L).
Team Osler featured Ayodeji Akinloluwa John (600L), Labaika Abubakar (500L), Fadilyimu Marvellous Oluwaseyi (Old 400L), Matthew Jonathan Omeiza (New 400L), Adeniyi Toluwalope Olamilekan (300L), and Adeyemi Ramon Akinbiyl (200L), while Team Paracelsus comprised Ibrahim Katibl (600L), Amos Oladosu (500L), Oyedepo Oluwafikayomi (Old 400L), David Netufo (New 400L), Emmanuel Ogunleye (300L), and Adedeji Samuel Adewale (200L).
The organisers noted that beyond the Cerebral Tussle, Febrile Academia has recorded a remarkable year, reclaiming its championship at the University of Ilorin Inter-Faculty Quiz and emerging second runner-up at the All-Nigerian Universities Debating Championship (Ultimate 9ja Quiz Category).
The team also clinched first place at the 2025 Nigerian Medical Student Association (NiMSA) National Quiz.
The event was described as a resounding success, strengthening academic interaction, mentorship, and the identification of outstanding students for future inter-university engagements.
In his remarks, the Chairman of the University Quiz, Debate and Innovation Committee, Prof. Oluyinka Iyiola, commended Febrile Academia for a stellar year, including reclaiming its title at the University of Ilorin Inter-Faculty Quiz and representing the institution at the All-Nigerian University Debating Championship (Ultimate 9ja Quiz Category), where it emerged as second runner-up. The team also clinched first place at the 2025 Nigerian Medical Student Association (NiMSA) National Quiz.
